Meet the Coach

Reggie Bartley brings over thirty five years of volleyball experience to PONO Volleyball Club. Coming from a family deeply rooted in the sport, volleyball has been a lifelong passion that has shaped both his playing and coaching journey. A former 2x All-OIA player from Hawaii and U.S. Army All-Army Gold Medalist, Reggie also brings over ten years of coaching experience, dedicated to developing athletes on and off the court.

As a husband and father of four daughters, Coach Reggie is committed to building strong fundamentals, confidence, and leadership in every player he coaches. His approach goes beyond the game focusing on discipline, accountability, and mindset to help athletes grow into strong, confident young women.

He believes in doing things the right way, the PONO way where discipline, accountability, and growth are earned, not given.

Training That Translates

  • "Coach Reggie is truly in a league of his own. He goes far beyond coaching the game—when challenges seem impossible or there doesn’t appear to be a clear solution, he steps in immediately with purpose, strategy, and relentless action. His dedication to his athletes is unmatched. He doesn’t just train girls to play volleyball; he teaches them to believe in themselves, think independently, and discover the power they already have within. When my daughter’s passion started turning into frustration and she was close to giving up, Coach Reggie saw something deeper in her. He recognized her hunger to grow, took the time to truly study and understand her, and helped bring out the player and person she was struggling to find again. In such a short amount of time, he has already helped restore her confidence, strengthen her mindset, and elevate her skills in ways that have been incredible to witness. Coach Reggie is supportive, intentional, and fully committed to every athlete he works with. He never gives up on his players and has a rare gift for unlocking their full potential—not just on the court, but in life. The impact he makes goes far beyond volleyball, and we are incredibly grateful for the confidence, knowledge, and growth he has inspired in our daughter. Thank you, Coach Reggie, for going above and beyond and for changing lives the way you do. You are one of a kind."

He believes in every athlete and has a unique ability to bring out each player’s full potential. Our daughter has grown tremendously, not only as a volleyball player but also as a person, under his guidance. His encouragement, knowledge, and commitment make a lasting impact on every athlete he coaches. Thank you, Coach Reggie, for everything you do."

  • "A great coach can teach skills, but an amazing coach changes confidence, mindset, and culture. That’s exactly what you do. Your passion for volleyball shows in every practice, every game, and every conversation with the team. You push people to be better while still making them feel supported and valued. Beyond coaching, you’re also an incredible friend. You genuinely care about the people around you, and that kind of character is rare. You lead with patience, encouragement, and positivity, and it creates an environment where everyone wants to work harder and succeed. You inspire people not only to become stronger athletes, but also stronger individuals. The energy, dedication, and heart you bring to everything you do never go unnoticed. Anyone lucky enough to be coached by you or call you a friend knows how special you truly are."

  • "Coach Reggie made an incredible impact on my daughter, Grey, this season. As the youngest player on the team, she came in feeling unsure of herself, out of place, and honestly questioning whether she belonged at all. In those early weeks, confidence was a real struggle. But when Coach Reggie stepped in, everything began to change. He saw potential in her before she fully saw it in herself. While others had previously overlooked or benched her because of her age, size, or skill level, Coach Reggie gave her an opportunity, believed in her, and then challenged her to rise to that belief. Week after week, he pushed her to grow not just physically in her skills, but mentally in her confidence, resilience, and mindset. Because of his coaching, Grey didn’t just become a better volleyball player; she became a more confident young athlete who truly believes in herself. More importantly, he instilled in her a genuine love for the game that I believe will last a lifetime. And if a coach can help shape both skill and self-belief while creating a lifelong love for a sport, I can’t imagine a greater compliment than that. We are incredibly grateful for Coach Reggie."
